SUMMARY:In-Service Training:  Educational Advocacy: An Essential CASA Role
DESCRIPTION:Educational advocacy is a key role for CASAs…but navigating “school world” can be challenging! What is the school expected to do? What am I expected to do as a CASA? What special services might be available for children who are or have been in foster care? Who do I call? Where do I start??? \nThis two-hour training will familiarize CASAs with the minimum expectations for educational advocacy; roles and responsibilities of stakeholders\, including expectations for school personnel; distinctions among special education (IDEA)\, Section 504\, and other services your children may be eligible for: and a glossary of mystery terms and acronyms to help you “speak the language.” \nThe training will be presented by Dr. Scott Elliff\, a public educator with over 40 years experience\, including serving as Corpus Christi ISD Superintendent\, and seven years as a CASA volunteer. \n\nA light meal will be provided.  Please RSVP to Diana Booth at diana@coastalbendcasa.org if you plan to attend.
