youth yoga program

We began forming our youth yoga program in late 2018 with a goal to provide youth in crisis with healthy coping tools to help them in their emotional, mental and physical development. Meeting with various child welfare agencies and community groups, we decided to host monthly yoga workshops for youth in foster care. With funding from Foster Angels of South Texas, Grande Communications and a private donor we were able to purchase a surplus of yoga mats. Agape Ranch donated journaling supplies and also committed to providing volunteers for onsite respite care.

February 2020 we held our first youth yoga workshop that focused on breathing techniques, group cooperation, improved motor skills, building self-esteem and confidence, developing inner and outer strength, increasing ability to focus and creating a heightened awareness of both one’s self and others. Activities included mindfulness games, yoga practice and journaling. Youth received their own mat and journal to keep. The Food Bank of Corpus Christi hosted an interactive nutrition session with lunch provided.

Due to COVID-19, the workshops were put on hold after the first one held in February. With the help of Foster Angels providing funding for shipping and CASA volunteers making deliveries, we have been sending yoga care packages to youth in foster care since May 2020.
